About
I am Milan Kappen, Head of Engineering at IU Group in Bonn - Germany's largest private university, with around 130,000 students. I lead the engineering organisation and the systems that keep it running at that scale.
This is where I write about building with AI in production: what actually ships, what quietly fails, and the one pattern under most of the failures - teams treating probabilistic AI as if it were deterministic software. Expect named tools, named numbers and working pipelines, not predictions.
Before engineering, I trained as a filmmaker at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, and the work was recognised at Cannes. That half of my training shows up here as restraint: one idea per piece, cut hard, no hype.
The writing goes out in four tracks - AI in leadership, the DACH Mittelstand, AI filmmaking, and personal AI projects. Subscribe to the ones that fit.
